Local Litter Champions
Following on from our introduction to the Superkind programme some of the children have decided to make a positive impact in their community.
As a result of this parents have been able to talk to their children about why it is important to play our part in keeping our local community tidy and safe.

At Olveston we are committed to fostering the personal development of our pupils in a holistic manner, aiming to nurture well-rounded individuals equipped with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for lifelong success. Our aim is to create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment where every child can flourish emotionally, socially, and morally. If we achieve this we know that we will have pupils who will go in to the world and make it a brighter place.
Below are some examples of how our children do this outside of school:
Climbing Pen y Fan
A year 6 pupil is helping disabled rugby players to train for a charity trip to climb Kilimanjaro next year. This is part of the IPL injured players league. This effort was started because one of the injured rugby players was injured in the Manchester bombings and had just completed a trip up the mountain in a wheelchair. He reached out to another injured player Liam Okeef who wanted to do the same challenge and is also in a wheelchair.
It needs a lot of training so they will be doing monthly challenges to get ready for a 6 day climb at altitude.
The picture shows a 7 hours to climb Pen y Fan. H worked all day to support the people who had come to lift Liam up the mountain, supporting the other volunteers who also found the climb challenging.
Family Fundraiser
A year 1 pupil inspired by the actions of other Olveston children decided he too could make a difference. Working with his family he held a fundraiser over the weekend to raise some money for a children’s charity. He is was very excited about doing it and the whole plan was all his idea, which makes it extra special.
He spent 6 hours on both days Saturday and Sunday making and selling cakes and also had a just giving page going for donations.
Made a Mark charity
These siblings and their friends baked cakes and made lavender draw sachets and sold them to all of the people in their street.
Spending the day on their stall they managed to raise £118.35 for Made a Mark charity.
Meeting an MP
Our pupil parliament had the chance to meet MP Clair Young. They discussed matters that are important to them, focusing on crucial topics such as the recent budget and its potential impacts on their lives, their school, and their wider community. The pupils shared their insights on a variety of issues, including farming, climate change and its disastrous effects, and the importance of proper funding for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in schools. Their passion for these subjects was evident, as they articulated their thoughts with confidence and clarity, showcasing the power of youth voices in shaping policy.
