Active Travel – Modeshift
Modeshift STARS is the Centre of Excellence for the delivery of ‘Effective Travel Plans in Education, Business and Community settings’. The STARS Education scheme recognises schools and other educational establishments that have shown excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable and active travel.
Launched in 2008, the STARS Education scheme is supported by the Department for Transport and has seen over 1,400 schools in England achieve accreditation since its inception. In the Autumn and Spring of each year, schools, local authorities and key partners come together for the National STARS School Travel Awards which recognise the outstanding schools from each local authority.
As a school we have been working with South Gloucestershire council and Modeshift to create an active travel plan.

Our Aims
- For more children to walk, cycle or scoot to school.
- For more families, who live within walking distance of school, to leave their cars at home and travel by foot, bike or scooter.
- For families who have to drive to park between 5 and 10 minute walk from school
- To reduce traffic and parking congestion at the front of school.
Park and Stride
If the journey from home is too far to walk or cycle the whole way to school, then Park and Stride is an alternative option which involves parking the car at least 5-10 minutes away from school and then completing the rest of the journey actively.
Below is the schools active travel map so families can use to see where the 5- and 10-minute walking zones are around the school.
Around the village you see walking bubble stickers to show roughly where the 5 minute zone begins.
