The school has recently achieved the healthy roots quality mark. We are really proud of this achievement, below is the feedback we received from the panel about our school offer.
The panel were particularly impressed with, and highlighted, the following as significant strengths from our submission:
- Passionate, inclusive and effective leadership, supported by a clearly articulated and applied ethos, vision, and value-base enabled the panel to easily see and praise how effectively the promotion and development of pupil, staff, family, and community health and wellbeing is embedded at Olveston.
- The investment in, and commitment to, the development of key health and wellbeing leadership roles such as the Inclusion lead, and the Senior Mental Health Lead (incl. completion of the Senior Mental Health Leads training programme and associated Thrive Action Plan).
- The extent to which the school is clearly and consistently working together to strive for excellence, reflecting on whole-school approaches, and seeking, listening, and acting on feedback to further strengthen this process.
- The senior leaderships’ commitment to investing in staff development and CPD – accompanied with an expectation that action and change arise from training and CPD.
- The clear sense of how integral the school is to its community, and how effectively the school supports and engages with parents and families (incl. signposting to external support agencies etc).
- The physical activity offer being made to pupils. The engagement with the Modeshift Stars programme and significant investment in Forest School provision are two good examples of how well the school is creating a whole-setting approach to children’s physical activity.
- The work that has been developed (and continues to be strengthened) around pupil voice and the clear evidence of the positive impact that this has had outcomes.
- The comprehensive, whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing, and the extent to which this is the embodiment of the school’s vision, ethos, values. This was very well encapsulated by all the work that sat behind the creation of your new behaviour policy.
- The high expectations the school have for assessing and evidencing learning in PSHE (i.e. that it was the same as the expectations for all other subjects and uses the same processes).
Over the months ahead the school will be looking to build on this success to become a beacon school for Health and Wellbeing within South Gloucestershire.
