Buddies
Our ethos is rooted in love, and that is something that we aim to grow right from the very beginning of our children’s journeys at Olveston.
Before the children even begin their journey with us, our new reception class receive a letter from their individual buddy – a pupil about to begin year four. The older children meet their buddies at our ‘Stay and Play’ event and then help them to settle in during their first few weeks.
These early encounters help to foster a positive and supportive relationship from day one.
But our buddy system doesn’t stop there! Every year group continues to work and play alongside their buddy class throughout their time at Olveston; they create firm friendships and are always there to lend a hand. By the time the Year 2 children wave goodbye to their buddies in year six, they are beginning to prepare to become buddies themselves and so the cycle continues!
Buddy Service at St Mary’s Church
It is tradition for the first service in Church that our new Reception children experience is their Buddy Service with their Key Stage 2 buddies. Unfortunately, due to COVID and other unforeseen circumstances, the current Year 1 and Year 5 were unable to do this. However we were never going to let them miss out so on Monday 7th November 2022, they finally had their chance to share their service with their families.
