Friendship Links With Bannerman Road Primary School.  (Part 1)

The Year 4 children of Olveston School have been forming friendship links with the Year 3 and 4 classes at Bannerman Road Primary School in Easton, Bristol. They have been writing letters and exchanging information about school life, religion and culture. They have found many similarities and differences.

The children met up for the first time on Thursday 7th February. Olveston children travelled to Bannerman Road by coach. We had a fun filled afternoon of getting to know you activities. In term 4, we will be welcoming the children from Bannerman Road to our school. They will spend the day working with children in Year 3, 4 and 5. We are looking forward to a long lasting friendship.

Egypt Vs The S.S. Great Britain.  Written by Abi & Luke.

“On Tuesday 4th March we went to the museum and the S.S. Great Britain.

At first we were on the coach. When we got to the museum, it looked really big. We went upstairs and had to open boxes which had Egyptian stuff in it and we had to say which type of person would have had it. We went and saw the tombs in the Egypt museum then we went to the animal section. I think the best part of the animal section was the tigers and eagles. Then we went upstairs and saw the dinosaur bones. We also saw lots of diamonds and crystals.

Next we had to say goodbye to the museum and go to the S.S. Great Britain. We got a day ticket. First we went under the S.S. Great Britain. Inside the ship, we had to try and find a ginger cat called Sinbad but it was a toy. We found him on a bed and we found a black cat in the kitchen. On the day ticket that we had, you had to collect stamps around the ship. I (Luke)pulled the bell and tried on some hats. We then went up to the top deck and I steered the wheel. We then got back on the coach and went back to school. I (Abi) had a great day!”

Friendship Links With Bannerman Road Primary School.  (Part 2)

On Monday 28th April, Olveston children welcomed Year 3 and 4 children from Bannerman Road Primary School. In term 3, Year 4 children travelled to Bannerman Road to form friendships and take part in a range of creative activities.

It was now our turn to host a visit. The coach arrived at 10.15am and the children from Bannerman Road joined us for assembly. We then had a playtime and began the first activity at 10.50am. Miss Plews lead a team building activity, Mr Bonney did a drama session and Miss West worked with children to create friendship tiles that will be turned into a collaborative mural.

At lunchtime, the children from Bannerman Road had brought a packed lunch. The children from Olveston were looking forward to showing off the willow structures and playing on the field together. Year 4 children have created some thank you letters that will be sent to Bannerman Road. We will also be using our beautiful friendship tiles to create a mural in the new hall.
