Lunch Time
Must do better...
Parents need to make healthier packed lunches, says the Food Standards Agency.  It found nine out of ten lunch boxes contain too much saturated fat, sugar and salt.  Try to include:
• One good portion of starchy food such as a pitta, wholegrain roll, tortilla wrap or pasta
salad, with a serving of lean meat, fish or egg.
• A child-sized handful of cherry tomatoes, grapes, carrot or celery sticks, fruit salad or a box of raisins.
• One portion of dairy, such as fromage frais, a fruit yogurt or a small chunk of cheese - just 60g is enough to fulfil a child’s daily calcium needs.
• A slice of malt loaf, currant bun, fruit cake or scone; a chocolate biscuit can be included occasionally.
• A drink: unsweetened fruit juice, semi-skilled milk, water, a yogurt drink or home-made smoothie.
