Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life.
• The opportunity to integrate environmental and sustainability issues into the life of your        school, altering your school ethos.
• Opportunities to deliver the Eco-Schools programme through curriculum work.
• The opportunity to raise achievement, and enhance learning styles and thinking skills.
The Eco-Schools programme is not just about improving the quality of the local environment. There are many other reasons why Olveston School wants to be an ‘Eco-School.’

Just before the end of 2008, we were invited to write an article for a French magazine. The monthly publication, ‘Eco Ecoles en Action’ features articles written by French schools on their eco-school journeys. Claire Bano, of the Fondation pour l’Education a l’Enviornment en Europe, visited our web site and was impressed by all the wonderful things that the children are doing on biodiversity. Mrs Luke shared the exciting work of our Eco Warriors and as a result, Olveston C.E.V.C. school now features in the latest copy of the magazine! Magnifique!
What is Biodiversity?
It is all living things all around us. It is in our forests and mountains, our rivers and seas, our gardens and parks. It is the soaring eagle, the leaping salmon, the tiny ladybird, the lowly earthworm. Biodiversity is the natural capital which supports all our lives. It is vital for our survival and is a key measure of the health of our planet.
Biodiversity is simply the variety of life.

OLVESTON ATTEINT LA FRANCE !     OR... OLVESTON REACHES FRANCE !
Bonjour Francais!
On Friday 22nd May 2009, Almondsbury and Olveston staff teamed up to take part in a day of outdoor learning training. We spent the morning at Almondsbury, learning a range of activities that would complement our creative curriculum.

The philosophy of Forests Schools is that the outdoor environment provides a rich and diverse outdoor classroom that motivates and inspires children in all subjects. The outdoors can be a great stimulus for writing; Mathematics can take place through measure and counting; Science really does become real!
