Nick from Touchwood worked with the children over two days to create our entrance and exit signs. The children learnt how to use mallets and chisels to carve and sculpt the wood. Due to the training involved in using these tools, only a few children from each class had a chance to experience this.  Touch-wood returned again in term 5 (‘08) to continue the project where much more work was needed! You can see the first signs of the entrance and exit signs, along with our school badge.
Wow! Our own school badge in wood!

The School Council took a minibus ride to Speedwell Nursery School on Thursday 28th February ‘08. Armed with Digital Blue cameras, their assignment was to photograph and film the Nursery School’s willow structures. The school has two small domes and a tunnel made from willow and the children thoroughly enjoyed playing in them!

“Does my head look big in this?!”
We were soon joined by about ten, very excited nursery children who were proud to show us around their tunnel and domes. At the moment the structures have no leaves, but in the spring, the leaves will begin to appear. On Friday, Naomi from the Avon Wildlife Trust came into assembly to show a PowerPoint presentation about building willow structures. The School Council also talked to the children about what they had found out.The whole school then were set the fun task of creating designs for our willow structures. We began creating our very own willows on Monday 10th March ‘08.  Below you will see our most recent photos.  We can’t wait for the leaves!!
The fence has two notice boards and a cob shelter, built by the children. We had a big celebration event in June ‘08, when the project was finished. Touchwood returned for their final visit during the middle of May. We thank all the parents and carers for their wonderful support. We all had great fun with this project.

On Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd November 2007, Year 4 created our very own Marsh Garden in the Conservation Area. First Naomi lined the grass with special spray paint.
Next we dug a hole in the lined grass, it was hard but we did it!  Then we put all the leftover grass in the wheel-barrow, our arms hurt!
Next we put the sheeting in the hole, it was difficult, and then we put some stones on top of the sheeting.
Some time later we put the soil back in the hole. We put lots of water on top of the soil and then planted our plants.
It was brilliant fun, but hard work at times!!
