“We have been focusing on School Grounds and Litter. Our plans included our main entrance fence project and recycling more to produce compost.
Avon Wildlife have also been helping us to create a vegetable patch. We are extremely grateful to the Allotment Association who helped support the school in this project.
We’re really proud about what our school is doing.”
“Our school has formed an Eco-Committee of 12 ‘Warriors’ (2 children from Year 1 – Year 6). The group meet each term to discuss key eco issues that need to be explored and improved in our school environment and in the wider community.”

Our Eco-Committee Mission: The Big Switch Off
Olveston Primary supported this initiative and our Eco Warriors made regular checks in all areas of our school to see if lights or computers had been left on unnecessarily.
Our energy was monitored using a Smart Meter and we were able to see our energy use reduce over a 12 period. This was a real team effort.
Nationally, 71% of people regularly leave items on standby in their homes, and 65% leave lights on in rooms they are not using. In fact, equipment left on standby wastes enough energy to power over a million proper-ties a year or about £740 mil-lion worth of wasted energy.
The ‘Big Switch Off' was a campaign to reduce wasted energy by encouraging residents, businesses & schools to switch off unnecessary electrical equipment and lights to save energy and cut carbon dioxide emissions.
The Eco Warriors have been busy creating wonderful pieces of art work for a nature journal. The journal will be part of a range of educational re-sources that the school is working to create for Woodwell Meadows in Littleton-Upon-Severn.
The meadows are a protected place of natural beauty and Littleton Parish Council are looking to find ways that local children can use and enjoy the site, whilst learning about conservation and wildlife.
Once the journal is finished, every child in the school will be able to take one home. We are also planning to have our outdoor learning day at the meadows in the summer. Watch this space!
