I’m going to join...
We are really lucky to have many clubs at Olveston School.  Below you will find some that are taking place over the next few terms.  If you’re interested in joining one, ask your teacher for some more information.  If you are already a member of one of these clubs, why not suggest it to your friends...

The Zone Club (Computers)
Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 - Mondays at 12.45pm to 1.30pm

Below are two digital blue ‘Zone Club’ competition entries.   The children had to create an advert for our school and submit to the Portal – South Gloucestershire’s computer ‘hub’.
The Book Club  An introduction by Jasmine & Megan—Year 6
Why don’t you join book club now?I  It is a fun way of saving your money and getting top quality books! When it is the book fair again, who knows how much money you will have saved to buy books. How do you join? You simply have to bring in some money every Monday morning, 50p - £2. (You don’t have to every morning.) Even better, you don’t have tell anyone your details, only your name and year. So there you have it! We want you to join book club because otherwise you’re missing out on a big thing.
These are some of the different types of books you may find at a book fair!
Adventures…People go and do weird and wonderful things in weird and wonderful places.
Non fiction…This book explains in detail practically everything you want to know.
Fiction…These are storybooks which aren’t true they are made up.
Comics…The books which everyone loves – fabulous illustrations and easy to read.
Animals…These tell you about the creatures.
Puzzles… Enjoyable things to do in the car.

Choir  Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 - Mondays at 3.30pm to 4.30pm
“Today we were in our lessons. Then the choir got called out for some reason but we didn’t know why. We were told to go to the new school hall so we did along with all the other choir members. But the Year 5 choir came in five minutes early. We went to the side of the hall and saw the song These are a few of my favourite things. We all started to sing then Miss West and Mrs Vizard came in we all got into our places. Then Mrs Vizard told us some very exciting news…
We were going to be on TV singing the song we had just been singing. We had to have a couple of practices because we had never really sung the song before. Then we went back to class still really pleased. After school we went to our normal choir practice. At 4.00pm the film people arrived from the local BBC. We went though the song about 5 times and sounded really good. When the film people left, we all went home to tell are mums and dads.
Now some people say today, the 21st of January, is one of the worst days of the Year, but for Olveston school Choir it had to be one of the best!!”

Drama Club  An introduction by Holly & Maedene - Year 5
Drama Club is really fun and it keeps you fit!  Children who are in Year 5 & Year 6 have the opportunity to join this excitement. Drama club takes place every Tuesday after school from 3.40 – 4.45, so you get just over an hour of activities.
We are very thankful to Mr Bonney, Mrs Luke and Mrs Webb for giving up their time to look after us whilst we are having so much fun and for organising the production. We are a fan of Shakespeare, last year we performed an amazing play of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This year we will be performing a play by Hans Christian Andersen!
It is a good chance for children to build up on their team work and friendships; it also helps the youth of today to get into the performing arts and work hard to produce good productions.
